Ugh.. not right now! We are getting our picture painted!

The middle ages art piece I chose to blog was a fresco type thing called Assumption of the Virgin (1489-1492) located in the Santa Maria Sopra-Minerva church. The church is full of little cove like rooms with awesome statues and frescoes. This particular one stuck out to me because it reminded me of my favorite painting, The Garden of Earthly Delights. It is a little random looking. Some of the angels are doing weird things and making funny faces with random little other things mixed in. The colors also stood out to me. Instead of being mostly brown, tan and white like it seems a lot of the paintings consist of, there is a lot of blue and green. The red clothing is what really catches your eye though. The faces look realistic but the focus of the painting is in the middle and significantly larger than the rest of the characters involved. It really sticks out to me out of all the 1874179231764 frescoes we have seen in the last 5 weeks. Basically.. its sweet!

  1. Ha. It sucks that you can't put pictures on because I would have loved to see it. It sounds definantly like a middle ages art piece because of the emphasis on certain characters and the realistic faces. I still need to google what the Garden of Earthly Delights, I want to see it.

  2. I would have loved to see your sweet piece of artwork. I mean I probably did but I need a refresher. The angels making funny and differnet faces would be something that I probably would not have noticed unless I looked really close. The colors seem like they would really grab your attention.

I do not see much green in the picture, though.
